Wednesday, February 5 – Albuquerque Chapter meeting & presentation: Judith Phillips “Native Plant Gardens for Beauty and Resiliency”

Judith Phillips will talk about her work developing native plant landscapes over the years.  Among the advantages of natives that delight her are their tolerance for the effects of climate change and their support for native pollinators.  She will share her wholistic ideas of appropriate plants for your location and how a gardener creates a habitat that is beneficial in a variety of ways. Over her many years of experience, her thinking about plants in their environments has evolved.  Come to hear her reflections. The timing is perfect as you start to contemplate your own garden space.

Bio: Judith Phillips is a landscape designer, garden writer, teacher and activist with 30 years of experience designing arid-adapted and native gardens in the high desert of New Mexico.  She says, “Plants are absolutely the heart and soul of my designs, but extraordinary gardens are much more than collections of plants.”  Underlying principles of her work include the usefulness of plants in reducing urban heating, increasing carbon sequestration and supporting wildlife, along with the value of well-adapted plants in landscapes that will thrive in the changing climate.
