Santa Fe March Meeting: “Saving the Santa Fe Cholla”

The March monthly meeting of the Santa Fe chapter will focus on efforts to preserve the Santa Fe Cholla, presented by Joe Newman.

Joe Newman is a practicing design consultant and creative director and one of the original founders of the Cactus Rescue Project. The CRP initially focused on enabling the future survival and sustainability of the state-listed endangered Santa Fe Cholla. This effort concentrated on propagation, and sharing of the plants. Several monitored colonies have been installed under the direction of the NM State Botanist. Others have been planned. The CRP expanded its actives over the years to establishing public demonstration gardens, and installations. These effort have featured the Santa Fe Cholla and other indigenous cacti as highly successful drought-tolerant landscape and gardening options. This work has been successful thanks to an exceptional volunteer response from individuals, groups, and organizations.

The meeting will be held at Christ Lutheran Church (1701 Arroyo Chamiso), located in the triangle of Old Pecos Trail, St Michael’s Drive and Arroyo Chamiso. It is directly across the street from Fire Station #4. Meetings and talks are free and open to all. For more information email Dr. Tom Antonio: email tom@thomasantonio.org or call 505-690-5105.
