March 20-21. Overnight Field Trip. Rockhound State Park and Florida Mountains.
Leader George Miller. We will attempt to find fields and hills covered with Mexican gold poppies for this early spring trip to the southern mountains of NM. We’ll also search for early blooming cacti and other ephemeral wildflowers and shrubs unique to the area. Some hiking on park trails but mostly drive and explore around scenic stops. We’ll meet at Rockhound State Park Saturday morning, March 21 at 9 am and drive along east of the Little Floridas, and other locations that may have flowers. Returning Sunday, March 22.
You must sign up for this trip ahead of time by contacting Carol Conoboy, firstname.lastname@example.org. High clearance vehicles will be desirable, although all cars can reach the park itself. Arrange for overnight accommodations in Deming or campgrounds in the area. Camping in Rockhound State Park is already fully booked.
