Carried Away: The Remarkable World of Fruit and Seed Dispersal

Michael Eason will explore the fascinating world of fruit and seed dispersal, examining
the remarkable adaptations plants use to move across landscapes and colonize new
habitats. From wind-blown samaras and water-dispersed river species to fruits carried
by birds, mammals, and even extinct Ice Age megafauna, the presentation will highlight
the ecological relationships that shape plant distribution and biodiversity. Attendees
will gain a deeper understanding of how dispersal strategies influence evolution,
habitat connectivity, and conservation across Texas and beyond.

Michael Eason is Vice President of Conservation and Collections at the San Antonio
Botanical Garden, where he oversees seed banking, tissue culture, and native plant
propagation with a focus on the flora of Texas, the Southwest US, and northern Mexico.
