2-miles round trip, 250’ elevation gain,
easy-moderate. This guided walk
traverses established trails through
creosote scrub to a shaded
amphitheater nestled at the base of the
Doña Ana Mountains, continuing to the
top of a low hill for a panoramic view of
the area and complete a loop to return
to the main parking area.
Plants to look for:
Creosote Bush, various Cacti (Prickly
Pear, Barrel, Cholla with red fruits), and
structured plants like Yucca, Agave,
and Sotol, alongside shrubs like
Tarbush and Mesquite, with some hardy
plants like Winterfat offering winter
texture and occasional early yellow
blooms from Barberry or remnants of late bloomers.
If you’d like to car pool, meet at 8:30 am
at the old K-Mart parking lot off
Highway 70 at the corner of Telshor Blvd. and Del Rey Blvd.
