The Bumble Bee Atlas is a community science
project that trains individuals and groups to
conduct catch–photograph–release bumble
bee surveys. Volunteers commit to conducting
two 45-minute surveys of their adopted sites in
a single year. Atlas volunteers’ efforts help
researchers better understand where bumble
bees are found, which habitats they use, and
which flowers they rely on—so land managers
and leaders of habitat restoration projects can
make more informed conservation decisions.
This program is a great way to contribute to
ongoing efforts to learn more about our
understudied pollinators in New Mexico.
Volunteers in other states have generated
hundreds of thousands of observations.
