Join us as we look for spring flowers on a hike to Fillmore Canyon, where we’ll explore the diverse native flora of our area. Our hike will begin at the trailhead at La Cueva parking area at 10:00 am. From there, we’ll make our way around La Cueva rock towards Fillmore, exploring how the plant life we see changes as we move through bajada into the wetter and shadier canyon. Expect to see a wide array of wildflowers including Indian paintbrush, phloxes, and monkeyflowers at the end of Fillmore Canyon. On the way back we’ll finish our loop with a detour to the cave before returning to the trailhead via the Arroyo Trail, offering different plant life and much appreciated shade.
The hike to Fillmore Canyon and back via the Arroyo Trail is just under 2.5 miles. The trail is relatively flat and well maintained, but please wear good shoes for hiking and bring water and sun protection.
