Welcome to the Albuquerque Chapter
Chapter Events
The Albuquerque chapter of the Native Plant Society welcomes everyone with an interest in the wildflowers and other plants that evolved in New Mexico and make our environment unique. Hiking, gardening, photography, botany, writing -- we include all aspects.
Our monthly, educational meetings are at the UNM Continuing Education building, 1634 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque. That is across from the red Vitalant Blood Center, just north of Indian School, south of I-40. We meet at 7:00 p.m. (but come earlier to get your seat, socialize and browse the bookstore table) on the first Wednesday of the month.*
The presentations are free, open to the public, and there is plenty of parking in front and behind the Continuing Education building.
*An exception is this December when there will be no meeting at UNM but instead we get together for our annual winter potluck lunch on Saturday, December 14th, 11:30 a.m. at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitors Center.
We will not meet the first Wednesday of January, 2025, because that is New Year's Day. Instead we will meet on Wednesday the 8th at UNM.
Questions about meetings or the speakers can be sent to our program coordinator, Sara Keeney, at abq@npsnm.org.
From April through October, we offer a wide variety of field trips, suitable for a range physical ability levels and degrees of plant knowledge. If you have a favorite place with interesting plants, feel free to propose a field trip or offer to lead one.
Share your pictures, comments and propose activities --- We invite you to join our members-only Facebook group: Native Plant Soc. of NM, Albuquerque Chapter and post your observations or your invitations to informal hikes in advance for others to join you.

A Scholarship Fund in Memory of George Miller
The Albuquerque Chapter of the Native Plant Society of New Mexico has established a scholarship fund as a memorial to our late friend, colleague and past president, George Oxford Miller (1943 - 2024). This fund will award grants to individuals who lead or participate in an educational project related to Southwest ecosystems, New Mexico wildflowers, or native plant gardening - interests which reflect the life work of George Miller as an author, photographer, and website developer.
The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide encouragement and support to persons (students, teachers, and others) with an interest in New Mexico's natural environment for conducting or participating in further experiences and studies, with a primary aim of increasing community awareness or educating others about ecology-related topics.
