Restoration Tour Leonora Curtain Wetland Preserve

Here are two great opportunities to learn more about Cienega wetlands from one of New Mexico’s leading authorities on these wetland types! You are invited to attend a tour and discussion of the stunning Blue Hole Cienega in Santa Rosa, New Mexico lead by Bob Sivinski of RCS Southwest on Friday, September 14, 2018. Bob is also leading a Cienega-focused tour at the Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve managed by the Santa Fe Botanical Gardens near La Cienega on Friday, September 21, 2018.  For those who have taken the Botany Boosters from Bob that we offered this summer, this is a great opportunity to again to practice your wetland plant skills as there are plenty of obligate wetland plants at Blue Hole Cienega and Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve.

On Friday, September 21, 2018, Bob Sivinski will also lead a tour and discussion about cienegas and the restoration efforts at the Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve near La Cienega just south of Santa Fe along I-25 from 11:30 to 2:00. Please bring your lunch for discussion time under the magnificent cottonwoods at the Preserve.

Part of the Wetland Action Plan that is being developed for New Mexico cienegas is to involve cienega landowners, land managers, and conservation non-profits by meeting with them at an actual cienega to discuss management and restoration opportunities. Daniela Roth, State Botanist for Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources manages the Blue Hole nature preserve for NM Forestry Division.

We hope to get participation from people who own cienegas, who may be interested in cienega restoration,  or are interested in protecting these unique and threatened wetland cienegas. Please pass the word to anyone interested.

Please let me know if you need more information. Please RSVP as soon as you can to Bob Sivinski bsivinski@cybermesa.com or 505-577-0287. Also if you directions to either of these venues, again please let us know.

Thank you and Be There or Be Square!
