The NPSNM Conservation Committee shares information with members and others about conserving native plants and habitats on public and private lands in New Mexico and beyond.
Our Conservation Committee supports actions grounded in scientific principles that conserve native plant biodiversity, promote the effective use of native plants to save water, land, and wildlife, and cultivate connections between people and plants. We monitor issues affecting the status of native plants and natural habitats and inform and educate both the board and general membership about these issues.
The Conservation Committee includes members from all of the NPSNM chapters and is headed by Conservation Co-chairs Sylvan Kaufman and Margaret Ménache. The co-chairs write comment letters representing the views of the NPSNM. Conservation committee members from the chapters write comment letters focused on local issues. Board approval at the state or chapter level must be obtained before any submission representing the organization. This process ensures our membership is well-represented in our NPSNM advocacy work.

Please participate by staying aware of issues and communicating your concerns to us or directly to the powers that be! Statements and letters from many individuals highlight the importance of an issue to our government decision-makers. You can mention that you are a Native Plant Society of New Mexico member, but your views are your own. Learn more about commenting on proposed federal and state regulations on our Advocacy Informationpage.
