Advocacy Information

As issues come up, we will provide talking points so you can contact your local, state, or federal decision-makers, write letters to the editor, or share information with your community. For example, the talking points for April’s Native Plant Month include some general information that can be added to most letters supporting native plants: Native Plant Month Talking Points 2026

Federal Regulations

The federal government provides guidance on submitting written comments here: https://www.regulations.gov/  You will also find clearly indicated end dates for comments, generally 30-60 days from when the regulation was made publicly available. Comments can be mailed or submitted electronically by looking up the docket number. Your comments should include information about why you support or oppose a particular regulation.

State Legislation

To learn about state legislation, NM residents can learn to track bills at My Roundhouse NM Legislation Tracker.  Contact your state legislators (find contact information at Contact My NM Legislator) and let them know your thoughts.  You can also attend committee hearings online or in person. Regulations have public comment periods at the state level, but comments are submitted through each agency, not through a central portal.
