Scheduled Events for 2014

Meetings and programs are on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (unless otherwise noted) at 7 PM, in the Conference Room of the Social Center at the University Terrace Good Samaritan Village, 3011 Buena Vida Circle, Las Cruces (on the right, while traveling east on Buena Vida from Telshor). Field trips are always on a Saturday. Most field trips extend into the afternoon. Participants must sign a release of liability form. Children must be accompanied by their parents. Mar 15 Field Trip. Spring wildflowers in the Doña Ana Mountains. Ray Bowers, leader. Meet 8 a.m.

April 9 Talk. David Cristiani, landscape architect, will present “A Chihuahuan Desert Place”; New takes on eco-region boundaries and subdivisions, and why that matters for having a more regenerative garden, no matter the scale. 7 p.m

Also, Sign-up deadline for WSMR trip in May.

April 12 Field Trip. Lisa Mandelkern, native plant/photography maven, will guide us in the Bishop’s Cap area to observe cacti and other natives. Meet at Bank of the Rio Grande parking lot, corner of University and Telshor at 8 a.m.

April 19 Garden Tour. Meet at the east end of the Kmart parking lot to tour several NPSNM members’ gardens at 8 a.m..

May 14 Talk. Ray Bowers will present “Costa Rica’s Beautiful Flora” at 7 p.m.

May 24 Tour. Dave Anderson will lead us on a botanical tour of Hembrillo Canyon, on White Sands Missile Range. Meet at the east end of the Kmart parking lot at 8 a.m.. [prior sign-up required--see April 9]

June 11 Talk. Melly Locke, Sierra Middle School teacher, will present “Engaging Middle-School Students in Science” at 7 p.m.

June 14 Film [no field trip]. Showing of the documentary “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time.” In the Auditorium of the Social Center at the University Terrace Good Samaritan Village, 3011 Buena Vida Circle, Las Cruces at 10 a.m..
