Fieldtrip to Tularosa Creek Homestead
Saturday, May 11th, 2:30 p.m.

1200 St Francis Dr, Tularosa, NM 88352

On Saturday, May 11th, 2:30 p.m. meet at the “Y” in Tularosa (the old truck stop at the intersection of highways 54 & 70).

If you’re interested in seeing desert plants, riparian plants, visiting a local watershed, and/or learning about local history, come out and join us. Please RSVP if able.
Laurel Berry & Elva Österreich will be leading this outing. Should anyone else have a location/trail for a future fieldtrip please contact Elva.
We will be carpooling to a homestead along the Tularosa Creek, about 7 miles east of Tularosa.
“Tularosa gets its name from the Spanish description for the red or rose colored reeds growing along the banks of the Rio Tularosa,” source: Wikipedia.
It’s five acres of a former cattle ranch from the mid 1800’s with remnants of local stone homes. There is a lovely arroyo, lots of trees along the river, a red stone escarpment with beautiful views all around, and lots of reed fossils. The owner also has a small greenhouse and a garden.

It will be a warm spring day, so bring water and sun protection. See you there!
