We will follow two short, easy loop trails on either side of the dam operated by the Corps of Engineers, about 8 miles north of the Santa Rosa exit 273 on I-40. This area is adjacent to, but separate from, Santa Rosa Lake State Park, about 115 miles from Albuquerque. After this exploration, we will return to see the Blue Hole Cienega Nature Preserve. For those interested, this trip will also provide an opportunity to enjoy the first Pecos Sunflower Festival inSanta Rosa (Sept.17-19) featuring an art show, live music, a quilt exhibit and viewing the “Saving Beauty” film by Christina Selby. Meet at 8:00 at the Smith’s parking lot (southwest corner), at Central and Tramway. Bring lunch, sunscreen and water.
