Botanist Ken Heil (San Juan College) will tell us how he and fellow botanist Steve O’Kane, Jr. were awarded a five-year Bureau of Land Management Grant in 2007 to conduct field studies throughout New Mexico. Ken will describe some of the more interesting areas where collections were conducted such as: Sabinoso Wilderness Area, Rio Costilla Park & Land Grant, White Sands Missile Range, and the Gila Wilderness Area. Select photographs of threatened- endangered-sensitive plants of New Mexico will also be shown. Ken will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having over fifty botanists contributing plant family treatments to the flora.
A Zoom link will be e-mailed to chapter members prior to the meeting. For more information, or to register for the meeting, contact Sara Keeney at skeeney [at] swcp.com.
